The bachelor thesis is focused on a development of libraries and librarianship. Specifically, on the historical development in the Czech lands. The first part briefly describes the development of libraries and librarianship in historical periods. The second part mentions important individuals in the field of librarianship and the development of librarianship as a profession. The third part focuses on specific types of libraries and historically significant libraries. Based on selected sources, there are mentioned palace libraries, burgher libraries or monastery libraries and their peculiarities.

History and present of Cistercian monasteries libraries in Bohemia

Diploma thesis discusses the history of the library of the Cistercian order in Bohemia since the founding of the first monastery in 1143 through the Hussite wars, the Thirty Years War, the dissolution of monasteries during the reign of Joseph II. to the present. Most attention is given to the monasteries, which remained preserved for our generation. The final part of the diploma thesis deals with libraries in Vyšší Brod, Zlatá Koruna and Osek from the perspective of the reader. Attention is paid mainly funds, services and accessibility.
